Pico-Robertson Butcher Loses Kosher Status After Alleged Meat Scandal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Southland rabbinical group Friday was expected to begin a review of its kosher certification guidelines after a butcher shop was caught allegedly selling and repackaging non-kosher meat.

The Rabbinical Council of California (RCC) revoked the kosher certification for Doheny Glatt Kosher Meats on Mar. 24, according to The Jewish Journal. The move came less than 36 hours before the Passover holiday.

Employees of Doheny Glatt were reportedly caught on video taking boxes of kosher meats into the store located at 9213 West Pico Blvd. without being supervised by the proper officials.

Eric Agaki, a Los Angeles-based private investigator, captured footage taken over the course of a six-month period from a Doheny Glatt warehouse on Pico Boulevard and a second location in the San Fernando Valley and showed it to the RCC, according to the Journal.

Doheny Glatt has since been removed from the RCC’s official list of kosher butchers.

The RCC is expected to release a full statement on the findings later this afternoon.
